Pomegranate Phone NS08

This is a link to a parody website that I think is really good, and it's really funny. It's actually an advertisement for Nova Scotia tourism and they figured a website like this would be amusing and get people's attention.

http://www.smirnoff.com/

Exploit the propaganda-like advertisements of Smirnoff. Reveal more raw truths to alcohol use/abuse as opposed to the candy-coated everyon'e-hip-and-cool view they give. Redesign ads with crude images of the other side of parties (puking, hangovers, the morning after the party, fighting, drunk driving, underage drinking, rape).

Wife Swap
I was inspired by this article about a previous episode of Wife Swap. The teenager that appeared on the show is suing ABC for "making her look like a spoiled brat". She claims ABC spoiled her reputation so she is suing them for $100 million. I think the things that people sue companies for is just ridiculous, there is so much better things our country can do with that money instead of using it for settlements like that. I want to make a attorney website that claims they will help people who were "wronged", but really it will just show clients who sued for things you would never be able to get away with.

I find it morally wrong that science has gone so far these days that parents can now pick and choose which traits their unborn children can have. Has our world really become so obsessed with being perfect that we need to control our children before they are even born? I think it would be amusing to make a designer baby website. Kind of like one of those make over websites where you can choose hairstyles, eye color, clothing, etc. and then see your "model", except you can do all that to create your baby.

It seems like our soceity has become obsessed with vampires. Since Twilight, vampires have been popping up everywhere, different tv series, they even appear on some medical tv shows. Maybe make a website saying vampires are real, showing "proof" of them in the real world, fake witness accounts, maybe even claims to have ben bitten by a vampire, that sort of thing.

Spoof

http://www.riceboypage.com/

A peeve of mine, as a mechanic and car enthusiast is "riced" or "ricer" cars. These are defined and easily noticed as cars with too many accessories, stickers and ridiculous modifications that often provide no real performance or aesthetic advantage. So as a spoof or parody I think a site that emphasized the over use of "ricer" ideas would be funny. Some people would even find it as serious b/c just from experience there are more then enough people out there that think their cars look good. These websites are two that are Anti-ricer "dedicated" to letting people know there is ridiculous cars out there. The one website is a real website dedicated to showing well designed, not riced, cars. I would probly base my webpage on the Super street site. make it dedicated to making ricer cars and making them look ridiculous

3 Media Example

Online Dating
Instead of making an online dating site, i was going to make a website about breaking up bad relationships but have it look like a happy thing. Or maybe online dating for dogs or something.

Victoria's Secret
Every girl wishes they looked like a Victoria secret model, so i was thinking of making a website for Victoria's secret where the models were not something you wanted to look like.

Online Restaurant
A website that you can actually order food online as if you were sitting in the restaurant would be ironic seeing as you cannot get the food out of your computer. Basically an online restaurant that can only lead to disappointment.

Sport Scandals Spoofs

I've always been exposed to all the sport scandals shown on news channels, sport channels, and gossip channels as well. And to be honest I am not even a huge sport fan, I may watch a few games here and there but not enough to keep track of every player. However, when a scandal is revealed and it has to do with a super popular sports athlete then all hell breaks loose.

http://www.sportalicious.com/

And there is a huge list of sport scandals and things not to do if any of these famous names ever were idols for fans of all ages. There is Tonya Harding, Oj Simpson, Tiger Woods, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and more! And most people will either know these names for 2 reasons, because they were really good at what sport they played or because the scandal they were involved in was really juicy.

http://sports.gunaxin.com/te-of-the-biggest-sports-scandals/19904

So I want to base my site around famous athletes that have gotten caught at doing something or someone they shouldnt of been doing. And I want to make fun of them to no extent and take no consideration in offending anyone because there will be plenty of offended people in this spoof site. But, sometimes that is what will make a good laugh is at anothers expense. And I want to show how the media effects the scandal by interfering in a person's personal affairs just because they are famous.

http://realfakesports.com/
http://www.buildabear.com/

this would be an amusing kind of thing. maybe more on the stocker side of life. Buildahuman possibly.

http://www.bk.com/en/us/index.html

burgerking delivery service almost like how dominoes has it to do delivery.
it's a joke but you can only pick certian items on the list and there must be a certian amount that you need to spend to have it delivered.

http://www.frenchconnection.com/

i like the clothes brand but find it very funny with the whole FCUK and they have this clothing line for children as well. They also while i was in the store have it for all sizes but when i went to go buy it they had a lot of smalls and xl, and xxl's left.

Spoof Site

I was inspired by a friend of mine who paid over $300 a ticket to go see Britney Spears, which I though was ridiculous because she doesn't even sing. So I thought a spoof advertising "concerts" with "singers" such as Britney Spears, Ashlee Simpson, Milli Vanilli and other instances of lip-syning. But I also thought about spoofing Britney Spears and all her "problems."

Spoof Site

I thought about spoofing technology as a substitute for human interaction. With email, texting, and chatting, there is no need for face-to-face interaction. Everything is affected by technology, even the English language has been affected by technology, such as the texting language. So I thought an advertisement for a email, text, facebook, and chat package advertising no human interaction. I found it a little bit harder to come up with 10 pages for this site, so I decided to go with something else.

Spoof Site

I think television shows have gotten ridiculous and the way pop culture has accepted these shows is even worse. Jersey Shore is just awful. I can accept that they are just young people who are having fun, and don't really know any better, but if a person from another country sees this show, they might believe this is the American lifestyle. So I thought a "guidebook to American life" would be a funny way to spoof the show.

Three idea

Mac
thesedays, the technology become more and more smaller, yes People likes small technology. Mac made a lot of small technologies for example ipot, iphone, and ipad. I also have a iphone, but actually, I have no idea why people like such a small phone without keyboad. I do not think my fingure is bigger than other people, but I still difficult to type when I use iphone, becuase the keyboad is inside of the screen.

Forever21, American Apparel
Both of the clothing stores are very famous. Not only in the United States, but also we can buy these clothe in the world. I like the price nd a wide assortment of items. Of course it is cheap than anyother clothing store. But I can not wearing a long time, especially Forever21. the material is easy to broken and loss of color.

Parody - Tough Decision

As I began to consider possible sources for this project, I realized that there is so much I would love to ridicule but few that are logistically probable considering the medium. Some topics would be better criticized as a video while others as posters or advertisements. But here is a list of topics or sources I considered followed by my tentative decision.

Scientology
http://www.scientology.org
Hail Xenu! These people are beyond belief. I mean, they know it's a joke right? Do us all a favor and take a one way ticket to jupiter on one of those fancy galactic DC-8s. L Ron Hubbard was a pedophile, I think that's enough said.

Religious Homophobics
http://www.godhatesfags.com
Wow. This must be seen to be believed. The words inflammatory and vile come to mind. My personal reaction is similar to what I would feel seeing a Neo-Nazi or other extremist or hatred based website.

PETA
http://www.peta.org
Extremists. I am in support of stopping animal violence, and these people make everyone look bad. Sure they look caring on the surface but that nutcase Ingrid Nelson is borderline terrorist. PETA has funded and trained people to firebomb and otherwise act violently to various ends. Not only that but they have been proven to kill most of the adoptable animals they claim they are saving. They have a freezer in their headquarters to keep the bodies! http://www.petakillsanimals.com

NASA
http://www.nasa.gov
I love space. I greatly respect astronauts and as a kid there was a time where I wanted to be one. But NASA in the past few decades has ultimately become a workhorse commissioned by the government. The military and government agencies commission NASA regularly to create their modules or weapons of war. Obviously not all their projects are malignant, but let's face it they're not exactly making huge strides towards revolutionary changes. The possibility of mining asteroids for incredible amounts of resources has been one of the many goals of furthering space exploration, and yet NASA doesn't even consider this as a possibility...yet they want to colonize Mars. They are highly misguided and have sadly fallen short of many people's expectations. I don't think that anyone expected that we'd be sending manned missions out beyond the stars by now, but in 40 years the best we've done in getting rich amounts of new data is sending two robots to Mars and now one is stuck. While this feat is very exciting and has proven beneficial in a few ways, in the grand scheme of things it really hasn't done much for us here on Earth, and one of the purposes of space exploration is to also help propagate and develop new ideas on Earth.

Anti-Evolution
http://www.creationist.net
There's not much to say to this nonsense except that it's laughable at best and no one important believes it right? EHH. Two words. President Bush. That's sad.

Bill O'Reilly
http://www.billoreilly.com
I'm sorry if anyone likes him. I'm not a democrat, I'm not a republican, I make my own decisions based on what is true or right. This guy makes angry irrational judgements based on his own arbitrary indoctrinations. He's far too angry and aggressive as well as downright disrespectful of anyone he doesn't understand. He's not always wrong, but he is inflammatory.

Glenn Beck
http://www.glennbeck.com
I have basically the same opinion of Glenn Beck as I do Bill O'Reilly. Glenn is like O'Reilly Lite, with just a pinch of crazy instead of hotheaded anger.

My decision was to tentatively go with a site mocking Bill O'Reilly, or Glenn Beck, possibly and what I thought might work better is to do a mashup of the two, sort of a mock team-up and then ridicule them viciously. I'm guessing that with all the sound bites and videos on the net as well as quotes and merchandise there will be no lack of content, and since they humiliate themselves on a daily basis on television there is always new content to mock.

Spoof Ideas

Recalls:
Companies have found ways to continue selling items that should have been recalled because it would cost too much and destroy their reputation. The government does not have enough regulations and control over see that people's safety is the priority. Toyota's recall was due to a US's plant incorrectly making the part. All of the cars that were made in Japan weren't put on the recall list. I feel strongly that independent companies are not something to be trusted because they are out to make a profit. The only way we can ensure we are safe is to have more AND proper government regulation.

Facebook:
Every time I walk into a computer lab I am surrounded by people surfing through facebook and staring down photos of people and their crazy/ slutty weekend like it's the air they breathe. I will admit I was a victim to this obsession when I first discovered facebook. The only reason I still keep facebook now is to ensure I can contact fellow students easily for advice on projects or assignments. I find that facebook takes up way too much valuable time. Most people can spend hours upon hours on this thing just looking at other people's photos, which seems strange and stalker like behavior.

Fox News:
Fox news has been known to report their stories on the conservative side. They choose to not make it known to the public that the news they report is not fully news but opinions based news. I chose to use this as my website because I feel that people should be given the right to get their news without any bias and make opinions for themselves.

Spoof Ads

The three major spoofs I wanted to do is: Wal-Mart, Windows(software), and Myspace.

Wal-Mart:

Wal-Mart is one of the biggest industries in the world and I hate everything they stand for. They really do have some of the lowest prices out there, on everything! That is their main down fall as well. Americans are becoming so lazy that they can just go to one store and get what ever they want now. It is companies like this that are influencing Americans into thinking it s ok to be lazy and over weight. I went into my Wal-Mart at home and there was a heavier women going to get one of those scooter to ride around in rather than to walk to get the tons of food she is going to buy. With her was her eight-year-old daughter, who was over weight as well. As her mother went and got a scooter her daughter was mad at her. So her mom told her daughter to grab a scooter as well and ride around in too. And that isn’t the biggest thing wrong with Wal-Mart. Small towns are being destroyed because of the rates and everything Wal-Mart can provide. Sooner or later their well be in small towns left, something needs to be down to set some sort of limit on these major industries that are slowly talking over.

Windows:

I am a Mac user and have been since I can remember. Windows is a major company that just makes me laugh. They have been making the same mistakes over and over again it has been pretty funny to watch. Windows started out how much better than they are than Mac’s. How better, faster and bigger they are, only their speed quickly back fired and computers stopped working. Then they came out with some sort of solid product, only to quickly go out and try to make a bigger and better thing like Vista. And yet again crash and burn it did. Finally they do something right with the brand new Windows 7, they I was on for a couple of minutes and it was like I knew this software from somewhere before. That’s right the new windows 7 took many cool looking features from Macintosh and but them to their own use. So thank you Windows for proving Apples is and will always be better.

Myspace:

Mypace is the biggest load of shit out there. If I can go on and become a stalker and have everyone be ok with it is just the worst I have ever heard. To me the people on Myspace are worse. Most of the people on it are just asking for something to go wrong, or for someone to do something so I am pretty sure that this whole this is just one big epic fail that should just cut their loses and try again.

Alice in Wonderland

I watched the Alice in Wonderland 3D in NYC. It was much interesting than I thought. Even I went to the movie at 10 PM, but the movie theater was full beyound capacity. I like how Tim combine the people with computer graphics. It indicate very well as 3D. Especially the red queen, I can not believe she is a real person, because she just like a character in the story. Also I like the landscape. 3D made more realistic, such as I am also in the screen. The English in this story is different than American English, so sometimes I could not understand. If I have a chance, I want to go again. I really like the end!!

AIW3D

I've always been interested in iterations of alice in wonderland, and there have been quite a few; some of them are dark and suspenseful and others are happy and disney-fied so to speak. The story itself is nearly 200 years old and its intriguing how the basic story is still so popular and how much it has changed. Dodgson, the author, was a mathemetician and included in the story many mathematical principles, as well as philosophical ideas. A full explanation of the story, its history and symbolism and various media adaptations can be found here:
Alice

On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give this and 8.5. The production value is massive, and I definitely agreed with the choices in casting. I'm not a huge fan of Johnny Depp but he is very dynamic. It seemed to me that this version was slightly focused on Alice and Hatter's romance though, which kind of seemed like a mechanic to appeal to a larger audience though it did fit within the context of the story. The effects are indisputably amazing, anyone who says it seemed fake is obviously not appreciative of the kind of work that goes into making it seem even 50% realistic. I believe that in order to experience the movie fully everyone should see this in 3D though, it just adds that WoW factor. On the other hand though I believe that this and Avatar have had something of an impact in the trend of 3D cinema, who knows where it will end up but I definitely enjoyed the experience, and that in itself justifies the ticket price. Generally I end up paying 9-15$ for a ticket at the theaters and thats without 3D. If every movie were able to be made in 3D, or at least the viable ones, I would go to the movies all the time.

Alice in Wonderland

I thought Alice in Wonderland was a great movie. I was expecting the 3D aspects to be a bit more noticeable, how ever I still enjoyed it. I loved all the attention to detail that was seen throughout the movie. Like the Queen's army for example, how their armor looked like playing cards, and how mostly everything in the Queen's castle was shaped like hearts. I have never seen the original Alice in Wonderland but I think I would've liked this one better either way. The special effects that were used made it so interesting, how nothing was actual life sized and the perspective of certain scenes was so different because of the 3D. I thought that this movie seemed more violent then I imagined the original Alice in Wonderland to be, I don't think it was too appropriate for small children. However I did very much enjoy the movie.

Alice in Wonderland

The movie was what I expected as far as digital effects and 3D animation. I liked some of what Tim Burton did to the story line and certain things I believe could have been done different.
My history on the original Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a little rusty but I enjoyed the new opening scenes. Alice's fall down the rabbit hole was one of the memorable scenes for me. the 3D aspect and the general disorienting view the audience was shown added to the appeal. I also enjoyed the slightly adult humor interjected into the movie. The graphic design elements were so well executed the landscapes and settings were beyond belief.
I thought that some things were lacking. I guess I expected more creative characters from Tim Burton. The the Red Queens army was armored cards that were orange. The White Queens army was just chess piece heads. The dragon I felt like I had just seen it in another movie preview. There was aspects of comedy, adult action and disney style children's characters, but none of which felt done all the way. The movie seemed to flip flop from kids to adults to somewhere in between, and I do not think it was smooth enough. I think Tim Burton should have gone completely adult humor, trippy and explored more of the old, harsher, concepts of the original Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, or he should have gone further towards a kids, fun, 3D animated movie. The movie just teetered between the 2 and I believe it hurt the overall appeal of the movie. Young kids are going to leave with a million questions, and adults are going to leave wanting it to have had more of whatever the "wow" factor was for them.

Defiantly worth seeing, the 3D aspects made it worth the price of admission and the plot was enjoyable.

Alice in Wonderland Review

Alice in Wonderland is an mind blowing movie that seems like it should be made for young adults but in the end really seemed like maybe it was made for kids and their parents. The movie starts off in the real world of Alice growing up. Showing her as a child having nightmares of strange creatures. Then they show Alice a little older taking place in a family get together where they briefly show a few characters of the real world. Later in the movie when Alice entered her dream world everything was 90 percent digitally computerized. The only few elements that were real time non computerized were the actors. Which there were probably 5 real life actors once you get into Alice’s dream world.

The thing about this movie was that is was too predictable and there was nothing really clever about it. If the director did a re-make of the movie you would think he had some rights to change up the story just a bit but not too much to throw anyone off. I wanted the movie to make my brain think and ponder, give some explanation on Alice’s “dreams” and how she really got into a fantasy world. Did she bump her head, go crazy, take some mushrooms, or was she really in another dimension that was real? And the movie could have gone deeper into the other characters a bit more rather then given the audience the assumption of who they are. Of course most people know about the story Alice in Wonderland and have seen different variations in books and cartoons. But, this was a chance to make it totally different, something more dark, more appealing to the mature crowd. But, it was like on the edge of this concept but not enough.

I think perhaps watching Avatar and then watching this, my eyes are already spoiled rotten to the latest and greatest special effects. I wish maybe they could have blended the lighting better in this movie to not make it seem so green screened. Or maybe a change in the lighting and color scheme. The movie was too short and just a pack full of adventure and typical predictable story line with nothing new to add into the story. Leaving us with a awkward ending of Alice having an epiphany after her hallucination. There is no real moral to the story as most fairy tales have them, except stay away from drugs kids.

I think that this is an awesome example of typography. I love how the designer worked the graphics into the text so it almost looks like part of the font.

Pomme Chan

This image was created for MTV by Pomme Chan. I found her work on CommArts website. Her work stuck out to me because of the dynamic colors and contrast used. All of her work has a very trippy feel to it. She in corporates vectors and photo's and makes them flow together nicely. She work is very visually and astheticly pleasing to me.

Blog Post for 2.15.10

http://www.djnr.net/

This is an interesting interactive portfolio I found. This artist works a lot with advertisements. His portfolio ranges in development, games, xml/backend, animation, and design. The original homepage is always the background and is actually a video of the artist on his computer which you can play and pause. The way that flash is incorporated through his website is very fun and definitely invites the viewer to browse throughout. One of my favorite things about this website is how it is laid out in this unique way. When you browse through his portfolio a small caption opens up that you can click through a series of his projects as well as visit the sites online if available. An aspect I didn't like about this website is that there isn't an area that shows the artist's personal information. There is a way to contact him but we don't even know his name.

blog post 2.8.10

Although they may not consider themselves artists, this group of very talented sheep herders devised a light show using a team of men, led lights, the dogs, and of course the sheep. The team of dogs were so skilled to perfectly execute these patterns and lines to create this fascinating show. Just goes to show you can create art in oh so many different mediums.

Blog Submission 2.8.2010

I found an online portfolio created by a digital artist named Neil Duerden who resides north of Manchester. His art is a combination of elements created from mixed media with photographs and digital photoshop skills A lot of his art has a sort of retro style with vivid colors. Most of his examples also involve some type of merchandise advertisement such as sneakers, cars, laptops, tvs, handheld video game consoles, etc.

His site is very hip and his gallery can be navigated through a side scroll type with a trail of thumbnails that will enlarge if you click them.

http://www.neilduerden.co.uk/

I found this website that is called Arsthanea.com and it seems to be a group of graphic artist that specialize in different fields. The homepage of the site has a navigation bar to the left that shows a list of the art pieces created for different commercial products from video games, shoes, and gum. One of the artist that runs the site is named Peter Jaworowski.

http://www.arsthanea.com

I found a website that is an online portfolio of an artist named Jerico Santander who specializes in digital art with an abstract style combined with surrealism. There are some great examples of this artist's work but it needs to have more pieces. Each art piece has details on the size, subject, and title of the work. There is also a button on the bottom of each art piece when viewed you can click the button "appreciate this" and tell the artist you appreciate his work with a simple click.

http://www.arsthanea.com

http://www.computerarts.co.uk/home

This website has lots of tutorials, blogs, and information for computer arts designers. I looked through this briefly and found many useful things. There is a category for New Media, which has information and hints to help when designing a website. I think this site will be very helpful for our class.

http://www.angryalien.com/

This website has always been a favorite of mine. It has some funny clips, but what interests me is that all the animations are done in the Flash program. It looks basic, but there is a lot of work that goes into each clip. The website and the clips are created by Jennifer Shipman, who has a masters degree in Media Studies. She started this company in 1998.

http://www.winchestermysteryhouse.com/index.cfm

This website has an awesome intro for the company. The images and music are very well put together. The whole design is very cohesive and captures the audience's attention. From the text to the wallpaper to the music, there is a common theme and it flows together nicely.

Luke Watkins

This image was created by Luke Watkins. I found his work while looking through CommArts.com. I learned that he is the Associate Art Director for the Discovery Channel. He is responsible for conception and execution of print, online, outdoor and ambient for Discovery Channel accounts including Deadliest Catch, Man vs. Wild, MythBusters, and Shark Week. His work really stood out to me because of how well everything flows together. The intensity of the show is clearly shown through this advertisement.

Daniel Blochwitz

http://www.danielblochwitz.com/flash.html

Daniel Blochwitz is a photographer. He using many pictures and put them together like a big piece.
I like the idea that he using his web-site to show his art work is different than that I saw in his gallery. Because from his web-site, I can see more clearly and easy to understand than when I saw the big piece on the gallery.

How some artists utilize the internet.

Phil HansenThis artist uses youtube to host and promote videos from his "Art Happening" series, which usually show timelapse videos of images being created in symbolic and creative implementations of pointillism. In some instances, he even does projects on live webcams, requesting his viewers feed him material for inspiration.
Morten NielsenA design portfolio with a somewhat annoying but very creative and unique form of interactivity/navigation.
M1 DesignI'm not sure exactly what this is about because it's written in a foreign language (it's obviously a portfolio), but it is interesting, very animated, and intricate.

3 sites

1.www.creagraffstudio.com

I picked these sites not only because I thought both the artists' work and the website itself were all designed very well. I really enjoy the designs by Giancarlo Fajardo. Her work is very enjoyable to look at and uses good use of colors and other aspects of design. I really enjoy the design of Elton Mogg's website. It is very functionable and appropriate for displaying his photography.

3 Internet Artists and URLs
1) WhiteGyr Web Design and Hosting, www.whitegyr.com
2) Form Troopers, www.formtroopers.com
3) Magnetic North, www.mnatwork.com/#/?state=0

The internet to me is a place to showcase, promote, sell, research, learn about what is current in the art world today and connect with other artists via social networks.

I think artists use the internet to share ideas, promote work, get their name out, as well as work like web design and sites that provide job opportunities for professionals and new emerging designers and artists.

Project I Part I

1) What does the internet mean to you?

The internet mostly means the fundamental information source. While working on projects the internet is the primary source for information,
research, and inspiration. Secondly as a communication resource through email and as a way to view others art work.

2) How do you think artists use the internet?

In a vast variety of ways. Through complete art projects such as when communication through the internet to create art in various areas. Also to use it as a gallery to display and discuss their work. Artists can use the web to research and fin
d inspiration and jobs.

Artist #1
Natalie Bookchin

I like her project Mass Ornament (2009), an installation using the web
videos people have posted of themselves dancing. She synchronized the movements of these individuals to make a calibrated dance. She used the internet as a resource to gather video and create her own art work.

Artist #2
Christopher Baker

Much like Bookchin, Baker uses online videos to create his artwork in "Hello World! or: How I learned to Stop Listening and Love the Noise". This installment projects thousands of videos which display people discussing their ideas on the internet and trying to communicate or get their voice heard through the web.

Artist #3
Lauren Olivieri

Lauren uses the internet as a device to share her work. She show cases a variety of her art work in different mediums through photographs to build a portfolio. Using the site she is able to contact fans and clients to further her success in art. I liked this web page for the simple layout.

What does the internet mean to you?

To me the internet is the most useful resource available today. It makes so many different references easily accessible. That is just looking at it in a design students perspective. Before using the internet so much for research, the internet for me was a main source of communication. Along with being a resource it is a huge social network for everyone. Now it so is easily accessible; from computers, to phones, to ipods. The internet is all around us and, when used properly, is making this world a more efficient and productive place.

How do you think artists use the internet?

The internet is avery important resource for artists today. Not only as a means of research, but to promote their work and stay informed of other artists/competition. It also is an efficient way to stay in touch with clients and do things in a timely manner. When using the internet to promote work, not only does an artists get exposure but they also get feedback from people all over the world with just a few clicks of a button. Again, when used properly, the internet is an amazing tool that has revolutionized the whole art industry.

Jaxun

This site is a virtual studio if the new media artist Jaxun. Jaxun has a lot of unconventional pieces with a psychedelic feel to them, Tge featured exhibits are part of the artistic cyber collective known as Art on the Net. It is 'digital fine art' that has been online since October 1994. Although the work in interesting, it doesn't come across as "fine art" to me. The website was also a bit misleading as to what kind of work would be presented. However, I liked this site because it was eay to use and I was able to easily look at all the artists work.

Linda Lanese

This site is the studio of Linda Lanese. She works in acrylic paints and medium gels, computer graphic design, sculpture, photography and image manipulation. The areas of her studio that interested me the most were the photography and the graphic arts sections. They have a very contemporary style to them and seem like something that I would make. The website is easy to use and very clearly displays her work. The only critisism that I have about this site is that a new window opens up every time you click on a link and there is not always a button to go back to the main menu. Other than that, it is a suiteable online studio to promote her work.

Pancho Tolchinsky

This is an amazing site. It is definitely my favorite one that I found. I found it through CommArts.com. It is a very well developed, professional site that is easy to use. Pancho is a professional photographer. Pancho collects photos from all over the world. He is a traveler and tries to capture new moments from each place that he goes. On his site, when you are searching through his photos, everything is labeled based on the collection. It is very organized and enjoyable to use.
The internet is the new social network of are time. People can access the internet from almost anywhere they are. To have the internet crash i think a lot of mayhem would occur. People live only through the internet and do everyday things that one needs to communicate with others. Web chats can make it so that a person never needs to meet a person in public since they can just do it over the internet

Artist use the internet by putting there work out for people to see and that way if these people like what they see they can try to buy the piece of art of hire the person for a job. There are so many ways to use the internet it is almost endless.

http://www.sd1.co.uk/design_background/index.html

john stutely
easy to get around the site and he has been in the business for around 18 years. Has a lot that he can work with. with all the work he has done he also has client testimonials on his work he has done for them.

dave edgerly

very animated work that he has put up. He a freelancer and he works in lots of mediums. He does not say how well he is doing but his work is good and navigating through the website is simple.

alex demeshkin- co founder president

This site is very organized and the design and lay out are very good and there portfolio on web sites and design are good. They are a web designing company that can help you site if they didn't even start is and that have a good sense of what they can do and confidence in what they do.

Artists on the Interent

1) What does the internet mean to you?

The internet is an amazing tool, filled with information and anything you can imagine. It means to me as a guide to get or send information. Whether it be getting music or talking to someone half way around the world, or sending files to business partners in a instant.

2)How do you think Artists used the internet?

Artists use the internet in many different ways. Through finding references, getting their name or work out. There are so many different ways an artists can use the internet t help themselves. The internet is a great tool for artists because it makes things easier and quicker. Rather than driving eight hours to a major city and showing a piece that you just completed you can just send the file and with in seconds they will have it.

Shawn
There is a theme to this site. The background and top header never change. Also the boxes where text are placed and graphics are, are either similar or the same. The work is futuristic and simple even though it looks really complex.

My Bare Opinion. No Sugarcoating.

What does the internet mean to you?

To me, the internet is a resource for information, a means of communication, and also a means of entertainment. Practically anything you can think of, or anything you have questions about, anything you want to buy, all exist in some form or are answered by someone somewhere. However; the internet has also created problems for humanity. I feel it is slowly consuming people and creating a parallel and antisocial code of public behavior. Despite all the "connectivity" and "networking" we do, we are actually regressing into a state of awkward isolation. More and more, people are hiding behind their cell phones and facebook accounts, and no longer interacting naturally in the physical world. The widespread availability of corrupting material builds - in younger people - a foundation of false standards and ideals. (Think pornography) Informal internet speech and anonymity over virtual mediums provide for derogatory, deconstructive and reckless verbal interaction (Think YouTube). If one were to judge the state of our world by online comments alone, we would appear to be one hell of a pathetic, ignorant and violent race. Perhaps doomed. And there is also the issue of crime. Our economy - almost everything in our lives - is based primarily now upon virtual databases and internet transactions; when these systems are compromised by criminals, or when these systems fail or collapse, chaos ensues. The internet is the greatest and the worst tool of our time.

How do you think artists use the internet?

(With a computer?) I believe artists use the internet as a means to promote themselves, both for financial purposes and for recognition. How else would one exhibit his work everywhere in the world simultaneously, and practically for free?

Kinuko Y. Craft
Tim Hildebrandt
Thomas Cole - The Voyage of Life

There is something eerie about the High Renaissance styles of [oil] painting. This is something I've began trying to imitate in my own painting. I like how Kinuko Y. Craft mixes motifs of fantasy with the old styles of painting.

As far as Hildebrandt, I don't know what else to say other than: these are the worlds I wish I could live in. Besides incredible use of light and feelings of immersion, there are often overtones of power or sexual attraction.

I suppose this doesn't exactly apply, being that this artist painted these more than a hundred years before the internet was invented, but I had to include Thomas Cole because of his series called The Voyage of Life. I stumbled upon the original paintings in a museum in Utica. I was walking home, away from one of the worst days of my life, and I figured I had nothing to lose by checking out the museum (at least I'd get out of the cold). I believe this series of 4 6-footers was what inspired me to pursue oil painting in the first place. This is absolute mastery... as far as symbolism and composition; how could you ask for more?

Childhood: Exiting the womb, guided by an angel into the world - your mother. A dawn - the beginning. Beauty - innocence. A vast expanse out of sight - infinite possibility. Joy and expectation.

Youth: Setting off on your own - the world is yours. Dreams of success; ideas of an afterlife. Excitement.

Manhood: Tumult. Fear. Uncertainty. A setting sun - loss of hope. More whispers of extraworldly forces. Weathered.

Old Age: The inevitable end. Timeless. A new hope of immortal life. The cycle is complete.
1. The Internet has become a valuable resource. The information contained in a thousand libraries and the knowledge of millions of people are all placed right at your finger tips. Instead of flipping through volumes of encyclopedias, all one needs to do is type in a few keywords on Google and instantly all that information is right in front of you.

2. I think artists use the internet as a means to get their works out to as many people as possible. The technology allows them to post what they have done and allows people all over the world to see it. This broadens their viewership to an almost limitless numbers of internet users. If it's being used as a means to spread a message or just a way to get potential clients the internet is an integral part of being an artist today.

Digital Artist and the Internet

The Internet means a lot to mean and it’s a huge part of my life. When I first entered the world of the Internet my first experiences was simple AOL and Yahoo chat. About a decade later the Internet is now one of the foundations that keeps my life interesting. Because of the Internet I have learned to do marketing and make legit money with online businesses and being an affiliate with a handful of companies. The Internet has given me information, which supplemented in teaching myself many new trades that made my life easier. Without the Internet my life would be 100 percent completely different but still interesting nonetheless.

In my opinion I see artists using the Internet as a network to get their message spread across larger areas. Artist can use the Internet to keep contact with partners, customers, and other artists while making new contacts along the way. The Internet can provide much more exposure and get an artist plenty of views when an artist puts up their exhibition online. So an Artist can use the Internet to gain exposure, get a message across, or even use the Internet as an art form in itself.

Marie Guillaumet

http://www.aenemya.com/

Marie Guillaumet is a female artist from France and specializes in digital art such as graphic design, web based art, albums covers, and more. She started from scratch and has taught herself art over the years. She got into web design in year 2000 with the launch of La Lune Mauve, which was a personal website and has since evolved into a large French community dedicated to the alternative culture. Her use of artwork involves a lot of fantasy like scenarios with clean and crisp colors and shapes. A lot of her work has cool color scheme and some of her work also reminds me of art nouveau with the use of organic lines and female subjects.

Oliver “Fantasio” Wetter

http://www.fantasio.info

Oliver “Fantasio” Wetter is an freelance artist that specializes in cover artworks for editorials, book covers, magazines, and concept art. This person’s art is really fantasy surrealism concepts that seem completely created from the imagination. Most of this artist’s work seems to be made with digital media such as photoshop and illustrator. This artist also does Dog portraiture, bookcover illustrations, pin up girls, cd covers and print, childrens book illustrations, and more. The artist style is very involved with fantasy, morbid subjects, biomechanical, with a touch of realism.

.

Gustavo Sazes

http://www.abstrata.net

Gustavo Sazes is the creater of a website called Abstrata and a lot of the art found on the website is really surreal and abstract with touch of darkness. His website www.abstrata.net shows a lot of examples of his work such as CD and DVD covers, Myspace channels for groups and bands, Websites, Youtube Channels, Logo’s and branding, and apparel designs. The artist uses a lot of photo manipulation, digital media, and has good usage of typography in most of the pieces.

Part 1

1. The internet, to me, is one of the most important a resourceful tools that we have. It can be used for research for countless amounts of things, whether it be for a paper, or inspiration, or information on places or things. The internet provides us with an unending amount of information and connection to the world around us. I also think the internet is a very successful way of putting work out there. Whether it be displaying artist work, like we will be doing in the class, or to advertise a company. The internet is a more advanced and more informational version of the phone book, I think. It allows us to stay connected with others, to find information we use everyday, and it allows us to learn.

2. I think artists use the internet in many different ways. An artist can create their own website to display their artwork. An artist can use the internet to research ideas or find inspiration for their projects and work. Websites themselves are displays for the artists who created them. As a growing artist, I use the internet to learn more about the design world and to find inspiration from other artists.

3 Internet Artists

There is an artwork, online, that was done by 3 artists from 3 different locations. These artists created a 24 hour blog performance. they used a wide variety of media and mix it all together. The artists are all Internet Artists, and they are:

Rick Silva
Rick Silva was born in Brazil, but now lives in Calgary. In Satellite Jockey, he uses Google Earth software the way a DJ uses turntables and he takes these manipulated landscape images and puts them onto live multimedia mixes and installations. In Recap, he takes videos and wherever there is graffiti, he blurs that out and writes "Recap" over the graffiti. All this is done electronically.

Nathaniel Wojtalik
Nathaniel Wojtalik is a nomad, in a sense. He doesn't have a permanent home, he prefers to travel constantly. Because of his constant travels, he is able to detach himself from human life and lose himself in the technological world. Most of his work is done using technological art, as well as some work in performance and conceptual art.

Mark Amerika is the other artist that participated in 24 Hour Count, but it is believed that isn't his real name and there is little information about this artist's personal life.

Another online artist that I liked was Tiffany Holmes. She uses art and technology to bring the environmental issues to the viewer's attention. One of her works is an installation piece that promotes walking instead of driving and the art intensifies as more people walk past the exhibit. Another installation piece has many lamps that are interactive, the audience is encouraged to turn lamps off and on. The electric currents are measured and the natural life projected onto the screens are affected by the currents.

Three artists

http://www.urobon.com/home.html
Noboru Tomizawa

He is a make up artist from Japan, and I really like his web-site. Most of his art works are very colorful and unique. Especially the first one. (Beauty-gold mouth) the big mouth makes me feel the drink is very delicious and special. He did not describe how he made these things, but it is also gives me more mysterious about his art.

http://userpages.umbc.edu/~lmoren/index.html
Lisa Moren

She is a digital artist. Why I like her art works is because she is not only doing painting, but also she does many types of art, such as drawing, baking, reading, cleaning or hand creaming within unexpected video and sound. Her web-site is very simple, but it is easy to find out where is her drawing, or where is her video.

http://galefraney.wordpress.com/2007/10/
Gale Franey

She is a digital artist from Canada. Most of her art works are taking photography, and using photoshop or flash to create them more interesting. Most of the face in the image are real, but the back ground looks fantastic. For example the girl wearing dress in the forest.

The Internet

To me, the Internet represents a opportunity to reach people from all over the world. It is a door to the rest of the world. Most people have access the Internet and this enables people from all over the world to reach each other. It virtually joins people separated by physical barriers. I think artists realize this opportunity to broaden their audiences. Most artists have webpages and these webpages provide access to the artist. It gives uses for large-scale marketing and advertising. Websites enable customers to buy from an artist that they may not have physical access to. I think the Internet also provides inspiration from other artists. Communication between artists provides inspiration, as well as simply viewing other works of art. There is also an opportunity to find pieces to put within the artwork. I read about one artist who uses sections from other people's vlogs to put into his own, with permission of course. These sections are mixed together to create a certain narrative element to accompany another element of art. There are so many opportunities for artists on the Internet, it is hard to list them all.

Internet is?

(1)I think internet for me is a very important tool to know everything. For example: fashion, social, political, economic, weather and business. But sometimes, internet has too much information and I do not which is correct and which is wrong, so I need chose by myself. However, it still is a good technology for me. These days, I do not use phone a lot, because I can use internet to contact with people all over the world. I can not imagine without internet in my life.

(2)Internet for Artist is a good way to show their art work. Such as photography, painting, and sculpture. They can use internet to update. Yes, internet is the fastest way to show and tell people that they made a new art works. Also internet is free and reasonable, because the artist do not need pay a lot of money to open a gallery, or need a big space to show their art works.

Project 1 Part 1

Link 1 Mario Nevado http://aegis-strife.net
Mario's artwork is very colorful and richly vivid. I really like his semi-realistic and high contrast images. He uses semi dark themes but very tastefully tho.
Link 2 Alex Grey http://www.sacredmirrors.org
Alex Grey is very metaphysical/new age spiritual which he uses as a source of inspiration for his artwork. Most of his work is very interesting as it encompasses many unique ideas and displays them in very rich color and illustrations.
Link 3 Jared Tarbell http://levitated.net
This site is very stimulating, there is a lot of exhibitions, images, information about the artwork it is almost too busy. Many of the themes seem very scientific/mathematical which I find very interesting. The colors are very vivid which is a huge plus for me. I love vivid colors.

Question 1: For me the internet is like the Wild West. There is so much happening unregulated and otherwise that there is something for everyone and everything. Whether you are looking to raise awareness about something, sell something or talk about something you are able to do so. The internet is still a tool though, and its uses are countless and not fully explored yet. For artists this is a vestige of hope because paying people to get your name out there can be costly and time consuming.

Question 2: Artists use the internet in so many ways such as advertising, research, communication or even as a medium in itself where a User can interact with the artwork.

www.davidairey.com/portfolio
Here is a portfolio i found online. I like his clean layout. The artist also does a great job of showing his process from brainstorming to completion for many of his works. It allows the viewer to recognize how much time he puts in for his clients.

Online Portfolio

http://www.molho.tv/

I found this online portfolio through the CommArts website. Although it is not the most elaborate website ever, it was definitely one that caught my attention. Once entered into the website there are several different images to choose from. Each of these images opened up the page to show the full project that the image represented. Some were videos and others were a compilation of images created. What interested me the most was the animated videos that were made. They were what kept me at the site looking and hoping to see more. I hope to be able to produce something like that of my own someday.

Online Portfolio

This is a portfolio that I found through ComArts. I found a lot of the work featured in it had very interesting and unique graphics. I also liked the unique ideas and concepts in some of the works, like the invitations and business cards. They are very "out of the box" ideas, and I really enjoyed looking at them. I think this artist, Betty Avila, will be great inspiration for my future projects.
http://www.emmagraphicdesign.com/

So i was looking through all these portfolio's and this one didn't so much catch my eye but was very user friendly. it had enough graphics and a very diverse and organized style. But if a person just wanted to look at a portfolio and just wanted to get down to the art work that he or she is putting out this one Then this site does a very good job

Portfolio Samples

Here are two sites that I found very interesting.

http://www.apocryph.net/

http://aegis-strife.net/

I love the use of colors and dark/abstract imagery. I was also very drawn to the 3D images both of these sites use as I'm pursuing education in the field of animation and 3D design. Theses are both sites which I would model a portfolio after, especially Aegis-Strife.net. I like the lack of use of frames and windows and instead there is an abundance of embedded graphics. They both seem to have this sleek, elegant look.

http://adaptationstudio.com

I really liked the diverse work in this portfolio. There are many different types of designs, but they all seem to be consistent. They are clean, simple, and neat. The color palette are simple and nice. They all have easy set-ups for the public. I like the design on the portfolio and the image used. The whole design, from layout to color choices, is very user-friendly and visually pleasing.

Full Circle Graphics

This is a web page that I truly am a fan of and check frequently for new posts. The layout of this website is basic, nothing to complex. What I am most impressed about is the way he took the simple layout and made it so unique and visually stunning is great! All of his works has a certain aspect to them that relates to one another and yet something new and exciting. This is a very well done web site that looks very simple and neat, but yet so good at the same time.

Venish Design

Venish|Design

I like this website because it has been kept simple, it can be navigated easily, it's very aesthetic, and it is (for the most part) contained within one window (no vertical or horizontal scrolling). Practically everything within this site is clean, fluid and self-explanatory. The way all graphics are smoothly antialiased makes for a very professional appearance.

Justin M. Maller

http://www.superlover.com.au/

This link is the for freelance illustrator and Art director Justin Maller. I like the way this site is layed out. The opening page is filled with selected art work. Clicking on the image will bring up a larger image. There is not a hidden trick or confusing maze to follow before his portfolio is visible. Across the top of the page is links to navigate the site. I find professionalism in the simplicity of this site.

Favorite Web Design

www.lotie.com

Lotie is a French artist that I found last semester. She does art work in print, web, video, and fashion. I found this website very interesting because it is creative and interactive throughout most of the website. While researching other websites I found that it is a difficult task to combine the artist's work as the back drop without it taking away from the material in her portfolio. Her website is easy to move around and find your way throughout. There are some slight confusing aspects trying to navigate from the portfolio back to the home page. I like how the images and her work are cleanly laid out and presented. Much how I wanted my online portfolio to be, Lotie's web page is clean, there is movement, mostly simplistic with a twist on the typical portfolio page.

Art by Ken Wong

http://www.kenart.net/index.htm

I like his web-site because there are four categories in gallery. Such as: Illustration, Sketches, Character design, and old. Each categories has a small box to tells us what kinds of picture will shows up. For me it is very easy to understand. Because I can click it easy when I would like to see some particular image. Also, every picture images are very colorful, and he use the color (gray, and dark gray) on the back ground, so it makes these images more stand out and makes each piece more interesting.

Tanya Merone

http://www.tanyamerone.com/

This is an online portfolio by Tanya Merone who is a graphic designer from New York. She specializes in user interface design and development. She uses photoshop, dreamweaver, flash coding sites with XHTML, CSS, and some Javascript as well.

This artist has examples on her online portfolio of websites using grids and some websites that are more open and free. She also has print design, logo design, and illustrative designs as well. Tanya Merone is a modern well-rounded graphic designer with a clean online portfolio.

And below is an example of one of her website designs...
