Pixel Art Portfolio

This site is clean, simple, and has a good use of rollovers and flash. It reminds me of the video games I played growing up and the kind of art I used to make on the computer when I only had a 16-color monitor.

Yuko Shimizu online Portfolio

http://www.yukoart.com/

I found this artist Yuko Shimizu who is an Asian artist that does a lot of graphic art based on Asian cultures. His art is very elegant with a touch of pop art and the use of experimental placements of color schemes. His work has a huge variety of subjects while maintaining his taste and style.

Vitaly S Alexius

http://svitart.n-tek.ca/home.php

I found this amazing online portfolio owned by an artist that was originally from Russia and studied art in Canada. He specializes in photoshop and is very illustrative. His artwork represents his outstanding imagination and captures his skills with the uses of vivid colors that blend together so well that you would question if it was a real life painting or an computerized painting.

automotive design portfolios

http://www.cardesignnews.com/site/designers/portfolios/

The above link is to a particular section of the larger web site, car design news. This portfolio section contains pages of designers mini portfolios. I enjoy the designs in the portfolios but I also like the simplicity of the layout for each portfolio. Two columns left side with the designers picture and back round information and a right side with several of their designs.

Wesbite

http://westla.com/

Very clean, functionable website. Good, consistent color scheme. Perfect for conveying the information necessary.

Rob Hopkins

Rob Hopkins is one of my influences. He graduated out of my high school and still works as a graphic designer locally, however, he does some pretty big work with the Buffalo Bills and other large corporations. He is very successful and I aspire to be as driven and impress people the way he does.

A Portfolio

Kilian Muster

A simple portfolio site with good, consistent formatting and a good palette.

http://www.graphicdesignblog.org/

This website is another website that offers a lot of help that is very useful when actually designing graphics for a website. There many useful hints and tutorials in Photoshop, animation, and other software programs.

www.allgraphicdesign.com

This website is very useful in terms of technical design. It gives a lot of help when designing a website and shows examples, tutorials, etc. The resources are also very helpful.

www.immersegraphics.com

I liked this website. There are some nice graphics and I really liked the overall design. Something that stood out for me was when you hovered over the buttons at the top of the page, tiny little bubbles floated up. I really liked that little detail.

Blog Post for 2.15.10

http://www.djnr.net/

This is an interesting interactive portfolio I found. This artist works a lot with advertisements. His portfolio ranges in development, games, xml/backend, animation, and design. The original homepage is always the background and is actually a video of the artist on his computer which you can play and pause. The way that flash is incorporated through his website is very fun and definitely invites the viewer to browse throughout. One of my favorite things about this website is how it is laid out in this unique way. When you browse through his portfolio a small caption opens up that you can click through a series of his projects as well as visit the sites online if available. An aspect I didn't like about this website is that there isn't an area that shows the artist's personal information. There is a way to contact him but we don't even know his name.

blog post 2.8.10

Although they may not consider themselves artists, this group of very talented sheep herders devised a light show using a team of men, led lights, the dogs, and of course the sheep. The team of dogs were so skilled to perfectly execute these patterns and lines to create this fascinating show. Just goes to show you can create art in oh so many different mediums.

Blog Submission 2.8.2010

I found an online portfolio created by a digital artist named Neil Duerden who resides north of Manchester. His art is a combination of elements created from mixed media with photographs and digital photoshop skills A lot of his art has a sort of retro style with vivid colors. Most of his examples also involve some type of merchandise advertisement such as sneakers, cars, laptops, tvs, handheld video game consoles, etc.

His site is very hip and his gallery can be navigated through a side scroll type with a trail of thumbnails that will enlarge if you click them.

http://www.neilduerden.co.uk/

I found this website that is called Arsthanea.com and it seems to be a group of graphic artist that specialize in different fields. The homepage of the site has a navigation bar to the left that shows a list of the art pieces created for different commercial products from video games, shoes, and gum. One of the artist that runs the site is named Peter Jaworowski.

http://www.arsthanea.com

I found a website that is an online portfolio of an artist named Jerico Santander who specializes in digital art with an abstract style combined with surrealism. There are some great examples of this artist's work but it needs to have more pieces. Each art piece has details on the size, subject, and title of the work. There is also a button on the bottom of each art piece when viewed you can click the button "appreciate this" and tell the artist you appreciate his work with a simple click.

http://www.computerarts.co.uk/home

This website has lots of tutorials, blogs, and information for computer arts designers. I looked through this briefly and found many useful things. There is a category for New Media, which has information and hints to help when designing a website. I think this site will be very helpful for our class.

http://www.angryalien.com/

This website has always been a favorite of mine. It has some funny clips, but what interests me is that all the animations are done in the Flash program. It looks basic, but there is a lot of work that goes into each clip. The website and the clips are created by Jennifer Shipman, who has a masters degree in Media Studies. She started this company in 1998.

http://www.winchestermysteryhouse.com/index.cfm

This website has an awesome intro for the company. The images and music are very well put together. The whole design is very cohesive and captures the audience's attention. From the text to the wallpaper to the music, there is a common theme and it flows together nicely.

Luke Watkins

This image was created by Luke Watkins. I found his work while looking through CommArts.com. I learned that he is the Associate Art Director for the Discovery Channel. He is responsible for conception and execution of print, online, outdoor and ambient for Discovery Channel accounts including Deadliest Catch, Man vs. Wild, MythBusters, and Shark Week. His work really stood out to me because of how well everything flows together. The intensity of the show is clearly shown through this advertisement.

Daniel Blochwitz

http://www.danielblochwitz.com/flash.html

Daniel Blochwitz is a photographer. He using many pictures and put them together like a big piece.
I like the idea that he using his web-site to show his art work is different than that I saw in his gallery. Because from his web-site, I can see more clearly and easy to understand than when I saw the big piece on the gallery.

How some artists utilize the internet.

Phil HansenThis artist uses youtube to host and promote videos from his "Art Happening" series, which usually show timelapse videos of images being created in symbolic and creative implementations of pointillism. In some instances, he even does projects on live webcams, requesting his viewers feed him material for inspiration.
Morten NielsenA design portfolio with a somewhat annoying but very creative and unique form of interactivity/navigation.
M1 DesignI'm not sure exactly what this is about because it's written in a foreign language (it's obviously a portfolio), but it is interesting, very animated, and intricate.

3 sites

1.www.creagraffstudio.com

I picked these sites not only because I thought both the artists' work and the website itself were all designed very well. I really enjoy the designs by Giancarlo Fajardo. Her work is very enjoyable to look at and uses good use of colors and other aspects of design. I really enjoy the design of Elton Mogg's website. It is very functionable and appropriate for displaying his photography.

3 Internet Artists and URLs
1) WhiteGyr Web Design and Hosting, www.whitegyr.com
2) Form Troopers, www.formtroopers.com
3) Magnetic North, www.mnatwork.com/#/?state=0

The internet to me is a place to showcase, promote, sell, research, learn about what is current in the art world today and connect with other artists via social networks.

I think artists use the internet to share ideas, promote work, get their name out, as well as work like web design and sites that provide job opportunities for professionals and new emerging designers and artists.

Project I Part I

1) What does the internet mean to you?

The internet mostly means the fundamental information source. While working on projects the internet is the primary source for information,
research, and inspiration. Secondly as a communication resource through email and as a way to view others art work.

2) How do you think artists use the internet?

In a vast variety of ways. Through complete art projects such as when communication through the internet to create art in various areas. Also to use it as a gallery to display and discuss their work. Artists can use the web to research and fin
d inspiration and jobs.

Artist #1
Natalie Bookchin

I like her project Mass Ornament (2009), an installation using the web
videos people have posted of themselves dancing. She synchronized the movements of these individuals to make a calibrated dance. She used the internet as a resource to gather video and create her own art work.

Artist #2
Christopher Baker

Much like Bookchin, Baker uses online videos to create his artwork in "Hello World! or: How I learned to Stop Listening and Love the Noise". This installment projects thousands of videos which display people discussing their ideas on the internet and trying to communicate or get their voice heard through the web.

Artist #3
Lauren Olivieri

Lauren uses the internet as a device to share her work. She show cases a variety of her art work in different mediums through photographs to build a portfolio. Using the site she is able to contact fans and clients to further her success in art. I liked this web page for the simple layout.
